Data compiled by the New York Civil Liberties Union (NCLU) on stop and frisk from 2002 – 2015 shows incredible racial bias. Yet and still there are those who maintain the policy has the ability to be effective if implemented correctly.
The question that comes to mind is how do you correctly implement racial profiling? One such individual who believes that stop and frisk can work is the Breakfast Clubs own DJ Envy. This morning he continued to spout off the number of guns taken off the streets in recent years while completely ignoring the discriminatory practices that created the policy.
“August 12, 2013, New York – In a landmark decision today, a federal court found the New York City Police Department’s highly controversial stop-and-frisk practices unconstitutional. In her thorough, 198-page ruling, Judge Shira Scheindlin found the NYPD’s practices to violate New Yorkers’ Fourth Amendment rights to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures and also found that the practices were racially discriminatory in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”
Despite cohost Angela Yee sharing facts with DJ Envy real name Rashaaun Casey, the radio personality maintained his support of the practice.
So instead of bashing him, I have questions for the New York native?
1.Would Stop and Frisk still be a good idea if it affected your children?
2.How is it that you can be faced with such a strong case for why the policy is ineffective and unconstitutional and still think it can be fixed?
3. Is it the beige in you, is your support of the policy one based in fear or privelge because you don’t live in the communities the policy targets?
